Equal Opportunities

At Littleborough Community Primary School we are committed to promoting an ethos that safeguards the dignity and well-being of everyone and encourages practices that take into account the rights of individuals to be treated with dignity and respect.

We will not tolerate any form of discrimination, harassment and victimisation directed at anyone and will have due regard to the need to promote equality, as required by the 2010 Equality Act

1. Our specific duties

We have two Specific Duties under the 2010 Equality Act:

  • To publish information to demonstrate our compliance with the general duty to promote equality
  • To prepare and publish one or more equality objectives

We have therefore prepared this document to show what we do to promote equality

of opportunity and highlight the equality objectives we have prepared.

2. Our objectives for the School Year 2020-2021 are:

  • To identify barriers to participation in extra-curricular activities, including music and sport.

  • To provide opportunities for pupils to have a wider experience of different ethnic groups and religious beliefs.

Type of Information used to achieve objective

To do this we will monitor the take up of extra-curricula activities. All Key Stage 2 children should take part in at least one of the opportunities offered during the school year. (Not all are after school time). Registers are taken at the clubs, children who do not take part will be asked if there is a specific reason that they do not choose to access clubs. Places will be reserved for children who we need to target because they are not getting involved. There are fewer extra curricular opportunties for children In key Stage 1 and this is something that we are seeking to address. However, through our monitoring we seek to ensure that all children have access to the provision.

We have updated the Collective Worship Policy ensuring that some assemblies include aspects that promote positive attitudes towards minority groups.  Topics covered will include Global Awareness, Anti Racism, Anti Bullying and People with Additional Needs. The effectiveness of these assemblies will be evaluated at the end of each term by interviewing a group of children from different ethnic and social backgrounds.
