Year 1 and 2 phonics screening
Throughout year 1 and 2 the children will continue to develop their ability to recognise phonemes and to use this knowledge to read and spell words.
In June, Year 1 children take part in the phonics screening check. This check is designed to show how well your child can use the phonics skills they have learned during Year 1 and to identify children who need extra phonics help. Those children who require extra support will continue to develop their knowledge and ability to use their phonemes throughout Year 2. They will be reassessed in Year 2. Again this will check will take place in June.
